Wallace library (US): nutrition related journals
"This guide includes all journals related to Nutrition currently received by Wallace Library. Also included are indexing and abstracting services available in the Library, which provide access to the journals." Good range of journals, and broad notion of nutrition related (e.g. includes Pediatrics and food industry journals).

AGRICOLA: list of Journals indexed
AGRICOLA contains records for agricultural literature citations of journal articles, monographs, theses, patents, software, audiovisual materials, and technical reports.
Arizona Health Sciences library: list of nutrition electronic journals

Pick of the crop
MEDLINE Journals With Links to Publisher Web Sites
From National Library of Medicine, an excellent list of MEDLINE abstracted journals with web sites. The NLM also publishes a set of definitive plain text listing of journals listed in Index Medicus (without links), but available by title or subject heading.

Highwire
This organisation specialises in producing web sites for scientific journals, which mostly have a common format allowing very good access and many auxiliary features. There is a list of the top 500 science journals with web sites, ranked in order of citation frequency. This seems to be separate from the listings of sites they are linked with themselves.

University of Washington Health Services library list of journals
Considerable number of biomedical journals here, with not only links to their on-line web sites, but also information on how much is on-line (incorporated within data on the library's own holdings). The general search engine allows a listing of nutrition resources specifically.

Medbioworld
A very sizeable list of biomedical journals, categorised in various medical specialties, including food and nutrition.
PubList
A commercial subscription service with good search engine for titles of journals. Provides information on publisher, sponsor (if relevant) advertising, purpose and intended audience of journal and a link to web site if available.

Very long list

Quite a good list, some with brief notation about access.
The Free Medical Journals Site
Lists free on-line access from medical journals, particularly full text. Listed by subject.

Pick of the crop
Journal of Clinical Investigation
This is truly an outstanding translation of a major basic medical sciences journal onto the web.

You get both abstracts and full text on-line for all issues from 1/96. Best of all, they have an excellent search engine, not unlike those used to access Medline. It allows you to search for specific citations, authors, keywords in title or whole text. Boolean logic is supported. From the list of returned articles, you can select abstracts only or full text. The latter also has a full graphic Acrobat format option.

Even more helpful are a link option to the Medline citation (through the NLM's Pubmed web site), and you can even click on the authors' name(s) to bring up other articles published by them. There is also a mirror site to speed up access to those who live outside North America. (Note: this is a stable mate web site to that of the Proc Nat Acad Sciences).

British Medical Journal
One of the best of all the on-line medical journals, with a profusion of features designed to make the viewer's experience most useful. This is one of our favourites!

Advances in Osteoporosis
Journal of the Health Council on Osteoporosis. ("consists of an international group of experts on osteoporosis").

Another interesting approach to on-line journal implementation. For each issue for 1996-7, there is not exactly a TOC but rather a listing of topic areas. Click on one and you can scroll through abstracts of each article in that section. There is also a rather long introduction from the editor in which he introduces and comments on many of the articles.

On top of this, you can search for articles in an accumulated data base of osteoporosis articles, taken from many journals other than this one, but although you can search with Medline like field choices and Boolean logic, you are returned only the full citations, not the abstracts!

American Journal of Physiology - Endocrinology and Metabolism
Abstracts of current and some previous issues. A search engine, although searching under the keyword "nutrition" did not reveal many articles.
Epidemiology
Abstracts of articles from 1996.
European Heart Journal
Abstracts, table of contents and search engine with reasonable number of articles on hyperlipidaemia and other cardiovascular nutrition topics.
European Journal of Epidemiology
Search and TOC from 1996. A related journal is European Journal of Public Health.

The FASEB journal
Federation of American Societies for Experimental Biology. Some abstracts on-line.
Gastroenterology
Official Journal of the American Gastroenterological Association, the web site features abstracts from current issue.
Journal of the American Medical Association
JAMA to most people! Full text of some articles, abstracts of others. Also "Student JAMA" is available.

The Milbank Quarterly
Premier journal for health services research and public health policy. Has search engine and abstracts on-line.
Nature
Summaries of some but not articles, together with TOC for each issue which do not not seem to be complete in relation to printed version, and also a .pdf format index from past issues. Registration required, but free.
Nature Medicine
Free registration required, has search engine, archives to 1997 and abstracts.
New England Journal of Medicine
Abstracts of many but not all articles, plus editorials etc. Search engine.
Pediatrics
Currently a free trial acess to on-line version of this major medicla journal. can access current and past issues from 1996. Search engine allows many options, e.g.author, title, anywhere in text etc. Also Medline access.

Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences
This is one of the better on-line journal sites around. One of the world's more prestigious publications for basic science has placed both abstracts and full text on-line for all issues from 11/96. Best of all, they have an excellent search engine, not unlike those used to access Medline. It allows you to search for specific citations, authors, keywords in title or whole text. From the list of returned articles, you can select abstracts only or full text. The latter also has a full graphic Acrobat format option. There is also an international mirror site to speed up access to those who live outside North America. All in all, an exemplary on-line implementation of a science journal .

Scientific American
There are plenty of nutrition and food stories within the pages of this great American publishing institution. Their web site offers a searchable set of articles from past issues which uses Excite's concept matching and relevance rating features. The site also has new stories and bookmarks. We do not promise that this list is entirely up to date, since journal publishers tend to enhance their web sites over time and some may now be offering tables of content or even abstracts.

It is therefore advisable to check with each particular journal web site that you may be interested in, as they may have added on-line content since we reviewed it.

Alternative, complementary, environmental and vegetarian journals
Alternative Medicine Review
Information on the journal only, but has a link to a web site where some article content can be seen from earlier years. It also appears that registered customers of the publishers Thorne apparently have access to more content.

There is an entirely separate site with an on-line magazine of the same name, but so far as we could see these are separate enterprises not connected with each other.

Journal of Optimal Nutrition: editorials
Brian Leibovitz PhD appears to be the editor of a journal Optimal Nutrition and these appear to be editorials from that journal. Presently 5 articles with a nutritional supplemental approach. Well referenced.
Journal of Orthomolecular Medicine
Information on the journal, listing of all content back to 1967, and a link to view some and purchase some full text from earlier years (only 1992-96 were available when we last checked) at the archive site.

Nutrition Science News Magazine
This is a web site of an alternative nature, featuring issues of a "journal of natural products research and innovation". It is evidently distributed to pharmacists. There are a number of Acrobat format documents from continuing education modules.
