Australian Institute of Health and Welfare
Does research into the health and social security systems. Their site has some excellent on-lien publications on these topics, including lots of public health nutrition information.

Australian and New Zealand Food Authority
The regulatory advisory body serving the two Australasian governments. The site has Information on what it does and its internal structure.
CSIRO Division of Human Nutrition

United States Department of Agriculture: the main home page, off which comes the many departments which are listed below.
USDA: Beltsville Human Nutrition Research Center
Part of USDA. Provides information on mission, activities and personnel under the Centre's various units and labs, such as food composition, diet and human performance, carotenoids, food survey research etc.
USDA: Food Survey Research Group
Part of Agricultural Research Service, USDA. Site contains information on the group, its activities, and its mailing list (Survey). Short summaries of results from its various national dietary surveys, together with a bibliography of material using this data. Also some links to other government sites.
USDA: Center for Nutrition Policy Promotion
"created in the U.S. Department of Agriculture, December 1, 1994, with the overall mission to improve the nutritional status of Americans by linking scientific research to the consumer". This page has information on dietary guidelines, food pyramid etc., both lay resources and background documents.
USDA: Cooperative State Research, Extension Service
Information and support services for agricultural universities and cooperative extension.
USDA: Food Safety and Inspection Service
Organisational information plus some of their lay publications, news and "Food Safety Educator" newsletter.
USDA: National Agricultural Library
Access to ISIS data base, if you have telnet capability.
USDA Nutrient Data Laboratory
Entry point for learning about the NDL, getting the news on its activities and searching the USDA food tables.
USDA: Food Nutrition Information Center
Access to lots of information on nutrition resources, lay publications, Nat.Agric.Library, dietary guidelines (and full report of that committee), food labelling and food illness.

Their main home page, with many branches underneath it.
Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition
A part of the FDA. They offer public health material as well as food science resources.

Colorado Department of Education: Child Nutrition Unit
Description of the unit and its education and other activities. There is no actual resource material on-line yet.
Health Canada Nutrition Program Unit
Information about various nutrition monitoring programs.
National Institute of Nutrition
Information on the organisation and on public health nutrition in Canada. Sections on consumer trends, access to several newsletters, scientific reports and educational resources. Has a subject index. There are still some technical bugs to iron out in this site, but it has much promise.

Very large listing of agribusiness, food industry & forest industry associations on the Internet, compiled by Carol Singer of the USDA's National Agricultural Library. Listed by geographical area, including international. This new resource from the Agricultural Trade and Marketing Information Center section of NALUSDA won't win any prizes for graphic appeal, but the breadth of research that went into this document is extraordinary.

This is an old site but has been extensively reworked and is now an excellent site for food and food safety information. Lots of links and resources from IFIC (e.g. Gallup poll results, information for consumers, educators, children etc.)

International Union of Nutrition Sciences (IUNS)
Holds much promise of being an excellent resource. Although not all pages are up yet, the site is intended to have information on IUNS organisational structure and activities, to be a starting point for electronic exchange on nutrition, and also to hold more general information on nutrition organisations and publications, research and education.

Australasian Society for Study of Obesity
Information on the Society and some information on obesity issues, including a list of literature references and the Society's position statement on very low calorie diets.
Australian Iron Status Advisory Panel
Public health oriented group of Australian experts in iron status disorders. This site contains a great deal of information on the clinical management of iron disorders, particularly iron deficiency. It includes both practical guides for the health professional and technical papers. It is plannaed to also include lay information and position statements in the future.
Australian Nutrition Foundation
Colourful well produced site on Australia's leading nutrition education organisation. The web site has news, the latest newsletter (nicely illustrated), organisational information and catalogue of pamphlets (but no content on-line).
Children's Nutrition Research Centre (Brisbane)
Information only.
Chinese Health Foundation of Australia
Information about the foundation and its research and education projects amongst the Australian Chinese community. The material is in English, (although there are some Chinese characters scattered around!).
Dietitians Association of Australia

The Allen Foundation Inc.
Michigan based foundation supporting research and education in healthy nutrition, particularly for children. Organisational information plus annual reports available on-line.
American Academy of Nutrition
This institution offers more alternative-oriented nutrition courses. Their web page contains information on their courses and health food stores.
The American College for Advancement in Medicine.
"A non-profit alternative medicine society dedicated to educating physicians on the latest findings and emerging procedures in preventive/nutritional medicine." This site contains material from their journal .
American College of Nutrition
Very brief amount of organisational information
American Council on Science and Health
Non-profit body aimed at interpreting scientific research for lay understanding. According to the web site it works on "consumer education consortium concerned with issues related to food, nutrition, chemicals, pharmaceuticals, lifestyle, the environment and health. " The site has articles and press releases on a range of nutrition related topics, as well as other public health issues.
The American Diabetes Association
Lay nutrition resources.
American Dietetic Association
Lots of material about the ADA itself, its legislative lobbying program, special interest groups, meetings etc. Some of its lay-oriented nutrition information and ADA press releases, plus lists of affiliated organisations and a few links to other nutrition sites.
American Heart Association
Lots of lay information, including nutrition resources, heart disease risk calculator, exercise advice.
American Society for Nutritional Science
Was called American Institute of Nutrition. Research oriented nutrition science organisation. Information on the Institute, its meetings and publications, including access to their Nutrition Notes newsletter. Also see http://www.edoc.com/nutrition/">mirror site.
American Medical Students Association Task Force on Nutrition and Preventive Medicine
American Medical Students Association: information on the activities of this task force, which has conducted work on nutrition in schools, on medical school nutrition curriculum and other preventive projects. Has email address of current AMSA coordinators.
The American Society for Clinical Nutrition
Organisational information, ASCN meetings and press releases, Am.J.Clin.Nutrition. Promises that will soon have position papers and post-graduate courses.
American Society for Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition
Information on the Society and its programs, membership etc. Later on they plan to have newsgroups, news etc.
Infant Feeding Action Coalition (Canada)
Pro-breast feeding organisation. The site contains lay-oriented resources, links and some more `political' elements (formula company boycott etc).
Canadian Foundation for Dietetic Research
"Canadian Foundation for Dietetic Research was established in 1991 to support and challenge dietitians to include research in their everyday practice." Brief statement of purpose and research focus on this web page which is part of the Dietitians of Canada web site.
Carolina Population Center
Specialising in large scale nutrition surveys, this North Carolina group have organised the Russia, China and Cebu (Phillipines) population dietary studies, and have provided detailed methodology information and access to raw results and lists of published papers on-line.

Brief organisational information.
Child Care and Nutrition Inc
Non-profit organisation which offers support services to child carers. Their nutrition page has some simple information on nutrition for children, and a list of high-medium-low sugar content for common breakfast cereals.
FANSA
Several press releases from FANSA, a partnership of four professional societies whose members have joined forces to speak with one voice on food and nutrition issues. Member organizations include: The American Dietetic Association, The American Society for Nutritional Sciences, The American Society for Clinical Nutrition, The Institute of Food Technologists. FANSA's combined membership includes more than 100,000 food, nutrition and medical practitioners and scientists.

OMNI
Opportunities for Micronutrient Interventions. Organisation associated with USAID and based in Washington which has focus on public health aspects of micronutrition nutrition, such as vitamin A, iodine, iron etc, particularly paediatric aspects.
Program Against Micronutrient Malnutrition
In collaboration with OMNI (see above). The focus of PAMM is to assist countries with developing their own technical capacity and management systems. Group from Emory University with focus on eliminating micronutrient deficiency. "To accomplish these goals, PAMM works to build public-private sector alliances, strengthen regional and national education and training systems, raise awareness through advocacy at all levels, and to develop standards to establish quality assurance of national micronutrient programs." This page is part of the OMNI site and is descriptive only.

As this page is only put up as part of a listing of exhibits at an English Education Exhibition it is not clear how long the page will be up, but whilst it lasts there is some brief information on the Foundation nevertheless.

Part of Karolinska Institute, "performs research on nutrition and toxicology using molecular biology techniques....also provides education on preventive nutrition, nutritional toxicology and molecular biology" Web site has staff and organisational information, bibliography of research papers, some web links etc.
