Good article written by three Brazilian medical students. It outlines the factors which make adequate nutrition so important in relation to surgical conditions (including non operative conditions such as burns). The emphasis is on protein and energy, rather than micronutrients. This is supposed to be the first of two articles, the second of which is to deal with nutrition support.

This totally revised site now has information on meetings around the world, standards and guidelines on parenteral nutrition, clinical quiz of the month, access to a discussion listserv and audio teleconferences, links to other nutrition sites, information on parenteral and enteral nutrition and a self-assessment quiz. It is also the home of the on-line implementation of the journals Journal of Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition and Nutrition in Clinical Practice.
