American School Food Service Association
Nice colourful site with material for teachers (lesson ideas), parents and students, as well as a (rather brief) Child Nutrition News Section, and food and nutrition tips. "the only organization in the country devoted exclusively to protecting and enhancing children's health and well-being by operating nutritious food service programs and providing proper nutrition education in public and nonprofit private schools."

Dietary Managers Association
This is a large "not-for-profit association established in 1960 that today has over 16,000 professionals dedicated to the mission: "to provide optimum nutritional care through food service management." DMA members work in hospitals, long-term care, schools, correctional facilities, and other non-commercial settings. The association provides career training direction and resources, continuing education and professional development including certification, and monitors industry trends and legislative issues."

The web site has on-line chat facilities for members, as well as index of topics for their Dietary Manager Magazine, some links and a visitor survey. There is also a useful educational module on Food Protection, which has a slide show and self-test.

Project PA: Pennsylvania School Food Service Education
Collaboration was formed between the Pennsylvania,Department of Education, Penn State University, and an Advisory Board, consisting of Pennsylvania School Food Service Directors to create a statewide, school food service education campaign, Project PA. The scope of the project is ". a two-year educational campaign. to enable approximately 900 School Food Service Directors (SFSD) to select and successfully implement appropriate menu planning and assessment protocols for their schools." The site has information about the project itself, plus some food and nutrition links.

National Food Service Management Institute
The National Food Service Management Institute (NFSMI) is a Center established by Congress, administered by the USDA/FCS. Their site has information about the First Choice program for delivering meals to children, a set of fact sheets from their Child and Adult Care Food Program and organisational and publication information.

Has a focus on cultural nutrition issues, although the web site itself has more information about the foundation and its research and education projects amongst the Australian Chinese community, rather than direct didactic content. The material is in English, (although there are some Chinese characters scattered around!).

Has a particular interest in cultural nutrition issues, although it is primarily a clincal nutrition journal. On-line abstracts and it has another web site as well for issues from 1992-9.
