Part of USDA. Provides information on mission, activities and personnel under the Centre's various units and labs, such as food composition, diet and human performance, carotenoids, food survey research etc.
Univ.of Alabama: The Energy Metabolism Research Unit
Part of the Clinical Nutrition Research Center.
Beltsville Food Survey Research Group (USDA)
Part of Agricultural Research Service, USDA. Site contains information on the group, its activities, and its mailing list (Survey). Short summaries of results from its various national dietary surveys, together with a bibliography of material using this data. Also some links to other government sites.
Canadian Foundation for Dietetic Research
"Canadian Foundation for Dietetic Research was established in 1991 to support and challenge dietitians to include research in their everyday practice." Brief statement of purpose and research focus on this web page which is part of the Dietitians of Canada web site.

An industry body to foster food and food science research in the German food industry. The web site has details about themselves and their research projects, with information on a lot of food research bodies that are members.

Short description of the staff and focus of this unit, based in Lyon, France.
Maastrich: Nutrition Toxicology and Environment Research Institute
NUTRIM is an interfaculty research institute of the Faculties of Health Sciences and Medicine of the Maastricht University in collaboration with the University Hospital Maastricht.
"Within NUTRIM, about 25 biomedical, clinical, and behavioural-science departments cooperate in the implementation of scientific projects in the fields of nutrition, toxicology, and environmental health. " Their site has organisational information and internal reports.
Malaysian Institute of Medical Research: Human Nutrition Division
A long, detailed and informative home page with material not only on who they are and what they do, but also on the results of many of their studies and projects. For example, vitamin A and iron supplementation.
Jean Mayer USDA Human Nutrition Research Center on Aging
Part of Tufts Univ. Their web site has organisational information and access to search engine for publications of the Center.
Monash University: Nutrition Research Group
Web site describing the staff, activities and publications of this busy research group which is one of Australia's leading centres for clinical nutrition research. The web site had not been updated for several years when we rechecked it.
National Health & Medical Research Council (Australia)
Main government funded body in Australian supporting medical research. There are a considerable number of nutrition related documents on this web site, including the official government dietary guidelines (adults, children, elderly), recommended dietary intakes, reports on obesity, nutrition in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders etc.
MRC Dunn Nutrition Unit
Information on the organisation, staff and research interests.
National Nutrition Institute, Mexico
Hospital with clinical and research nutrition focus. The web site has organisational information in English and Spanish.
Norway: Institute for Nutrition Research (Institutt for ernæringsforskning)
Reasonable amount in English, alongside the Norwegian version.
Pennington Biomedical Research Center
Founded as the result of a $125 gift from oilman and philanthropist C.B. "Doc" Pennington to Louisiana State University (at the time apparently the largest private gift ever made to a university by an individual!) the Center "now pursues the secrets of nutrition in a core complex spanning an area the size of five football field". The statistics quoted are impressive: more than 350 physicians, scientists, technicians and support personnel, working in 38 basic research laboratories, including clinical reference, food chemistry, stable isotope, cell culture and transgenic laboratories, plus a Clinical Facility. The web site has information on the Center its staff and research activities, as well as information about registering for the many conferences they hold.
Taiwan: nutrition research
Few abstracts, some of the material and link descriptions do not appear to be in English characters. From Department of Food and Nutrition, Veterans General Hospital, Taipei.
Thailand: Research Institute for Health Sciences

PDF format document from National Center for Education in Maternal and Child Health. The document "presents a tool for learning about cost-effectiveness analysis and developing skills in planning and carrying out evaluations that assess the cost-effectiveness of competing alternatives in nutrition-related activities. The author presents general information about cost-effectiveness, a step-by-step model, and examples of cost-effectiveness analysis applied in the field of nutrition. It was prepared for and with the assistance of members of the Maternal and Child Health Interorganizational Nutrition Group, which is a partnership of national professional and voluntary organizations and federal agencies."

USDA: Food & Nutrition Research Briefs
From the National Agricultural Libary of USDA, this is a great monthly on-line newsletter. Each issue contains a few paragraphs outlining (in generally lay terms) the results of a few recently published research projects in which USDA staff have been involved. An added bonus is the giving of the email address of the USDA research person concerned, which could really stimulate useful discussion. Unfortunately, there is no search engine specific to this resource.

Consideration of the Nutrition Components of the Sick Child Initiative
Full text of the 1995 report of the Committee on International Nutrition, Food and Nutrition Board, Board on International Health, Institute Of Medicine. The Sick Child Initiative is a public health project to ensure proper paediatric care and assessment is available to children with common diseases such as measles, gatroenteritis etc,, particularly in Third World and poor loving environments.
