Healthy Choices for Kids Online

Provided by the Grower of Washington State Apples, this site is built around lesson plans on healthy lifestyle and nutriiton. This translates to lots of information for kids and their caregivers, both parents and teachers. This includes a story book, colouring sheets and lesson plans. It also features a search engine and email updates. "The Healthy Choices for Kids nutrition education program was created by the growers of Washington state apples and is funded in part by the Washington Apple Education Foundation, Tree Top, Inc., and other industry sponsors."

K-6 nutrition lesson material: Utah

Curriculum material entitled "Responsible Healthy Lifestyles Nutrition Education". These teacher resources are based on 30 lesson plans, which include some visual material such as the food pyramid, games and student worksheets. "Williamson County Schools is proud to be the recipient of a grant through the State of Tennessee to support the Nutrition strand of the 9th grade Lifetime Wellness curriculum. The Nutrition Education and Training (NET) Program provides nutrition education to teachers and school food service personnel so they can, in turn, teach children about good nutrition. NHLBI: Child and adolescent health curriculum materials catalogue

"flyer describes the curriculum materials on the Child and Adolescent Trial for Cardiovasular Health (CATCH) available from the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute Information Center. An order form is also included. These materials were shown to work in the largest school-based program ever conducted to help teach elementary school students and their parents healthy habits to prevent heart disease. Web site of an organisation that offers offers Storytime Cooks Lesson Plans for pre-school and elementary school students. The web site mainly has information about what they offer, not the material itself.

The Global Grocery List Project

School project which encourages students to collect local grocery prices for a variety of specified items and add them to a global list. Students from around the world can compare foods and prices, and teachers can use the figures for math, nutrition and Social Studies activities.

Team Nutrition program

Team Nutrition

Team Nutrition is the implementation tool for Team Nutrition is the implementation tool of the USDA's School Meals Initiative for Healthy Children. It is both a program for healthier school feeding and nutrition education at schools. Hence see also under: School feeding

"This is the plan to continuously improve school meals, and promote the health and education of 50 million children in 92,000 schools nationwide." Their web site has information on the program, a search engine for a data base of Team Nutrition Schools, a library of files and a link to the main section on the School Meals Initiative for Healthy Children.

The program has a long list of participating schools, and many states, school districts, and individual schools have put material up on the web relevant to this program.

Montana: Nutrition Education and Training Program

Part of Montana State University Dpt of Health and Human Development, this site offers resources (some on-line and some information about how to get them) for those school staff involved in chool nutrition education for children and school food service training. It is part of the Team Nutrition program. Unfortunately some of the links were broken when first reviewed (10/97)
