American Academy of Family Physicians Foundation: Patient Education Program A project of American Academy of Family Physicians to list and link to patient education materials of various formats, particularly printed. These "have been favorably reviewed for a variety of criteria including scientific accuracy, content, and appropriateness for use in a family practice setting. The PEP database is a service created to assist health professionals in identifying appropriate patient education materials for their office." The source of this material varies widely, and certainly includes commercial organisations. A wide variety of nutrition materials are listed. A search engine allows you to specify topic, Grade level for content, and language (mostly Spanish).   This is an invaluable resource.

Science Direct Search

Elservier has a lot of nutrition and food science journals. This is a list, which you can search by title and keyword. From there the abstracts are freely available on-line.

American Indian Ethnobotany Database

Searchable data base on foods, drugs, and other natural products used by Native North American Peoples.

DIRLINE: National Libray of Medicine Directory of Health Organizations

Search for health organisations using this NLM data base. This is the nutrition listing, which returns information on address, contacts, description, but unfortunately no web or email listiings.

ADA: search for a dietitian

Search for a registered dietitian in the USA, based on area, type of service etc.

British Medical Journal

Search the collection of nutrition and metabolism related-articles on this excellent on-line implementation of the leading medical journal the BMJ.

Dietary supplements bibilography data base: IBIDS

The International Bibliographic Information on Dietary Supplements Database (IBIDS) is produced by the Office of Dietary Supplements of the National Institutes of Health, in conjunction with the Food and Nutrition Information Center of the National Agricultural Library. IBIDS will contain bibliographic records, including abstracts published in international scientific peer reviewed journals on the topic of dietary supplements, including vitamins, minerals, herbal and botanical supplements. Supposed to be available on-line some time in 1998.

Products, producers, food service and catering listed in Italian. A multi-level catalogue with informartion on addresses and phone numbers, only the occasional entry has a hyperlinked web site.

Search by subject or title. From the USDA School Nutrition Program.

The MAD Scientist Network

Collection of scientists administered from Washington University School of Medicine. They provide on-line answers to young (and other!) people's questions about anything to do with science, which can include nutrition and food subjects. Very worthwhile project.

National Center for Education in Maternal and Child Health: Organizations Database

Search by keyword, currently returns around 50 relevant nutrition organisations, including contact details and where available web address.

TEKTRAN data base of agricultural research (USDA)

USDA's Agricultural Research Service has produced TEKTRAN, a searchable DB to assist fast tracking commercial awareness of basic research into agricultural and (mainly animal) nutrition.
